Dahlia Sale FAQs

SHIPPING

  • You will see two options at checkout:

Dahlia Economy Shipping: USPS Ground Advantage in a Bubble Mailer: These packages are recycled bubble mailers (Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!) and the tubers within are also in bubble wrap and are shipped out Ground Advantage — will arrive in 3-6 days.

I shipped ALL of 2023 this way with only one damaged package.

Dahlia Priority Shipping: Priority Mail in a Box:
These packages are in a box and should arrive within two days.

  • Shipping Rates are comprised of two things:

1.) A per order handling fee — I’d love to have this listed separately for transparency, but my website platform does not allow for that. This covers merchant fees charged per order, time and materials printing your order, time assembling your tubers, packaging them up, and the fee I am charged for printing your label.

I could build all this into the price of the tubers, but that is not fair to anyone buying multiple tubers, as many of the expenses are per order, not per tuber.

2.) USPS charges for actual weight of package.
The actual weight of your package determines the actual postage cost.

These two are combined and are presented as your shipping charges at check-out. Do note that the more tubers you purchase, the lower your shipping per tuber rate is.

  • I ship when the tubers wake up in the spring and I ship the orders in the order in which they were received. In a perfect spring, I will start shipping in early April and work at a reasonable pace until all the pre-sale orders are shipped by the end of April. After that, new orders go out a couple days after they are received.

2023 was the opposite of a perfect spring as the tubers didn’t start waking up until mid-May. By then, many customers were tired of waiting and let me know in no uncertain terms. As I was shipping all the orders in two weeks, I was working 10-12 hours a day and receiving cranky emails. It was awful for everyone.

2024 has been warmer, so I actually started shipping mid-March.

  • Yes! At check-out, you can select Store Pick-up. When I have your order ready in Spring of 2024, you will receive an email with a link to my scheduler. Just pick a day that works for you and come get your goodies.

ORDERING

  • Almost. A pre-sale is occurring long before we get a hard count on the number of tubers that will wake up next spring. We keep records, we make an educated guesstimate, we put about half that guesstimate on the website, and we hope for the best.

If the tubers don’t survive the winter and/or don’t wake up, there is disappointment all around. Perhaps even more on my end than on yours.

  • Certainly. In your dahlia order confirmation email, you will receive a discount code that will reduce the shipping on your next order. This will be available up until I ship your initial order.

If you forget to use the code, I will most likely still combine your orders, but will not be issuing shipping refunds.

Please don’t share the code online or with a friend, as when I get an order using the code, I search for the initial order to combine them. If I don’t find one, I will ask the person that placed the order to pay the difference, plus $5.00 for misusing my time searching.

  • When you place your order, you will be (or were) asked if you want a substitute, or a credit/refund.

Substitutions — we try to send you a equal or greater value tuber of the same color family.

Credits are in the form of a discount code unique to your order and worth the value of the missing tuber + $1.00 for your trouble. We write the discount code on your paperwork and send your order off. Because we are so busy packing orders, we don’t stop to send an email. Most people use their discount code on an other tuber, or — if luck prevails — on the missing tuber when it finally wakes up and we restock the website.

Refunds are sent only when someone lets us know that they won’t be using their credit; we often don’t get caught up on these until the shipping season is over, as shipping orders out takes priority.

  • No, they will not. They will have their ID codes on them, which correspond to the paperwork included with your order and with the codes on the website, so you can easily tell who is who.

  • Just let me know! Do be advised that all canceled orders are subject to a 15% fee.

WISHLISTED

  • If the variety you wanted is marked as “Wish-Listed” try putting one in your cart to trigger the Sign-Up to Be Notified mechanism.

When I get a better count of tubers later in the season, I will add more to inventory and you will get an email to let you know that your desired variety is available again.

Use the shipping discount code you received in your initial order confirmation email to save on shipping on your add-on order.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Your tuber can be long and elegant or short and squatty or a gnarly mess. It will have an eye or a sprout and it will produce beautiful blooms and more tubers. You can read more about tuber expectations here.
