DOVETAIL: My Favorite Overalls
Over the past three years I have been buying and testing out overalls, looking for what works best for me. The winner is . . . Dovetails!
My favs are the Freshly line, as they are stretchy and have a gusseted crotch, which is essential given how much we all bend and fold and squat. I had not given much thought to the gusset feature, but when folded over, I do appreciate that the seam where the legs of the overalls connect is not pulled into the tender bits. It’s the little details that matter.
And speaking of little details, Dovetail Freshlys have a twine hole, which is the most clever thing ever for a gardener — put your twine in the pouch and thread it through the reinforced hole. Pull out the twine you need one-handed. Also, for those of you that can still get down to your knees and back up again (that ship has sailed for me) there is a spot to put a pad in to cushion your knees.
Dovetail makes only women’s workwear, which is a refreshing change to receive product designed for my body shape, instead of product designed for slim hips and broad shoulders and then slightly altered to slightly fit me. My Freshly overalls have enough room in the hips and thighs, come in at the waist, and fit on top too, not too roomy that the straps slide down, and not too snug that the girls feel smushed.
