Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Ameraucanas
Squee! Last fall I started my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Ameraucana flock and am now able to hatch their eggs and boy-oh-boy are they hatching well!
The Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Ameraucanas are laying the bluest eggs of all my flocks and are so sweet and affectionate. And did I mention how pretty they are? See for yourself!

Ameraucanas lay blue eggs in the most gorgeous shades and are a variation on the Araucana from Chile. These are golden wheat colored with blue-grey trim and underfluff and have the most adorable muffs and beards. Prized for their beautiful blue eggs, they are usually friendly sweet little birds.
I do want to make sure you know that Ameraucanas are prone to crossbeak more than other breeds. One in a hundred Ameraucana chicks is likely to develop cross-beak aka scissorbeak and will need to be fed wet food and have regular beak trims. The defect shows up when the chicks are between 3 and 14 days old.
My Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Ameraucanas are quickly becoming my favorite flock. They are such easy-keepers, sociable, gentle, and laying so well right now. I can’t recommend them highly enough; lovely in appearance and temperament and they weathered this winter’s cold snap with ease.
